Alternate translation inspired from this example found on Jisho.org : Ah, in the end, there is nothing like black tea on a day off’s afternoon. In the end, few things can revitalise more than having black tea in the afternoon.

		ここが先生せんせいの新あたらしい研究室けんきゅうしつですね。 Soね hereここ isです Sensei先生’sの new新しい office研究室? So this is your new office, then?
		ああ、私わたしの恩師おんしであるシュレーダー博士はかせから譲ゆずり受うけた研究室けんきゅうしつだよ。 Yes,ああ、 I haveだ（よ） inherited譲り受けた the office研究室 fromから my私の formerである＝ was mentor恩師, Dr博士 Schraderシュレーダー. Indeed. It used to belong to my former mentor, Dr Schrader, before I was transferred here.
		先生せんせいは活動かつどう的てきな人ひとだから、こんなせまい研究室けんきゅうしつでは物もの足たりなかったんだろうね。 Sensei先生 isは a dynamic活動的な person人, thereforeだから I supposeんだろうね such aこんな crampedせまい office研究室 was insufficientでは＋物足りなか・ったでは＋ない＝ Negative form 物足りない＝ unsatisfactory, insufficient ～った＝ Past tense. He likes to move around a lot. I suppose that in the end, this office was too small for his taste.

Puzzle #01: How many 9’s are there?This puzzle originally appeared in Curious Village.
This is the 3rd weekly puzzle (November 21, 2008).

		変かわった本ほんが多おおいですね。これって何冊なんさつくらいあるんですか？ There’sです a lot of多い peculiar変わった books.本 How many books何・冊・くらい of theseこれ・って are there?ある・んですか There’s a lot of strange books. I wonder how many…
		さあ、どれくらいかな？ Well, how many? Well, how many do you see?
		じゃあ、ボクが数かぞえてみます。ええと、１、２、３···。 Alright, Iボク will try counting.数えて・みます Um, 1, 2, 3… Alright then, let me try counting. Let’s see. One, two, three…

１から１００までの整数せいすうに、「９」という数字すうじはいくつ出でてくる？ In all integers from 1 to 100, how many numbers “9” appear?

Puzzle #02: Roll of the Diceサイコロの目This is also puzzle #125 of Curious Village.

		先生せんせいはいつもここに泊とまっているんですよね？ Sensei is staying overnight泊まって・いる in hereここに all the timeいつも, right?んですよね？ You’re always sleeping in your office, aren’t you?
		泊とまるつもりはなくても、考かんがえ事ごとをしているうちに、朝あさになっていることが多おおいんだよ。 Even if I’m not planning to stay the night, whileしているうちに I’m deep in thought, there’s a lot of (times when it’s) become morning. Even when I don’t intend to, I am often thinking so deeply that the sun will start rising before I know it.
		昨日きのうもこんなナゾを考かんがえていてね··· Yesterday too, I was thinking about this puzzle… Just yesterday, it happened in part because of this puzzle…


少年しょうねんがサイコロを投なげて、目めが出でるたびに数かずをつぶやいている。１が出でると１５、６が出でると２０と言いう。さて、今回こんかいは３が出でた。少年しょうねんは何なんと言いうだろう？ A boy throws a dice and mutters a number each time it rolls up. He says 15 when a 1 is rolled, and 20 when a 6 is rolled. This time, he got a 3. What will the boy say?

The boy was saying the total number of all the dots he could see. Only the ones on the other side of the number he rolled are invisible due to being on the side looking down. On a dice, the sum of the opposite sides is 7, so it can be calculated.

Puzzle #03: The Apple’s BugThis is also puzzle #107 of Curious Village.

		先生せんせい、このリンゴ、虫むしがついてますよ！ Sensei, this apple, a bug’s in it! Professor, there’s a worm in this apple!
		ええ、本当ほんとうかい、ルーク？ Eeh, is it true, Luke? Huh, really, Luke?
		本当ほんとうですよ、ほら、ここです、ここ！ It’s true, look, it’s here, here! It’s right here!
		うん？どこだい？ Hm? Where is it? Hm, where is it?


リンゴを完成かんせいさせよう。真まん中なかに虫むしが見みえるようにね。たった８個このパーツだけど、ちょっとむずかしいよ。 Let’s make the apple complete. In order to see a bug in the centre. It’s only 8 parts, but it’s a bit difficult.

Puzzle #04: Overlapping PaperThis is also puzzle #034 of Curious Village.

		すごい量りょうの書類しょるいですね。どこに何なにがあるのか、わからなくなったりしないんですか？ That’s a dreadful amount of documents. Don’t you lose track of what is where? That’s an awful lot of documents. Don’t you ever lose track of where you left off?
		それくらい把握はあくしているよ。自分じぶんの研究室けんきゅうしつだからね。 That much I have figured out. It’s my own office, so. I can manage this much. After all, this is my own place.
		さすが先生せんせいですね。でもこれって、全部ぜんぶで何枚なんまいくらいあるんですかね。 As expected of Sensei. But of these, how many何＋くらい sheets枚 are there in total?全部で As expected of professor Layton. But still, just how many sheets of paper does that make?
		気きになるのなら、数かぞえてみるかい？ Ifのなら you care about it気になる, will youかい try counting?数えてみる If it bothers you so much, why don’t you try counting?

Mark the areas with the least overlap first. ３枚まい以上いじょうは間違まちがいなし。 3 sheets or more, no doubt.

Puzzle #05: Can you tie a knot?This is also puzzle #108 of Curious Village.

This is the 10th weekly puzzle (January 9, 2009).

This is the 21st weekly puzzle (March 27, 2009).

		先生せんせいの部屋へやには、変かわったものばかり置おいてあるんですね。 In Sensei’s room, so many unusual things are located. There’s all kinds of weird things in your office.

This is the 27st weekly puzzle (May 8, 2009).

		先生せんせい、このスタンド、もう壊こわれちゃってるみたいですよ？ Sensei, this desk lamp, it looks like it’s already broken. Professor, it looks like your lamp is already broken.
		いいや、それを点つけるには、ちょっとしたコツがいるんだよ。 No, to turn this on, there was a minor trick. No, there’s a little trick to turning it on.
		えっ、どういうことですか？ Eh, what sort of thing is it? Huh? What do you mean?
		このスタンドの電球でんきゅうはね··· This lamp’s light bulb… If you look closely at the light bulb…


電球でんきゅうと電池でんちの間あいだの線せんを切きれ目めなくつないで点灯てんとうしてほしい。途中とちゅうで切きれる線せんが無なくなるように、電線でんせんの通とおったパネルを並ならべてみよう。もちろんパネルは全すべて使つかうこと。 The wire between the light bulb and the battery must be connected without interruption so that it lights up. Try to arrange the panels with wires running through them so that there are no lines that can be cut in the middle. Of course, all panels must be used.
Choose a tab to view hints! 切きれてしまう線せんは無ない。ただし、関係かんけいのない線せんもあるから気きをつけて。 There is no line that can be broken.
